PRIME MINISTER'S INITIATIVE - NOTICE FOR STUDENTS

On 18 April 2006 the British Prime Minister launched Phase 2 of the Prime Minister's Initiative for International Education (PMI), designed to encourage international students to study in the UK. The Visa Section of the British Consulate General in Indonesia is committed to supporting the PMI. Through the provision of a quality visa experience to students we hope to encourage and welcome more genuine students to the UK. Should you have any comments (positive or negative) on your experience of applying for a student visa please let us know via our email address - visa.jakarta@fco.gov.uk - or by fax to +62 (0)21 316 0858 or by post - headed for the attention of the Entry Clearance Manager.

CHANGES TO UK VISA PROCESSING SERVICES IN INDONESIA

From Wednesday 1 February 2006, applications for all categories of UK visas will need to be made at the new UK Visa Application Centre (UKVAC) at Plaza Abda, Jl. Jenderal Sudirman, Jakarta. This also applies to applications submitted by post.

The new services will make applying for a UK visa easier and more convenient, with longer hours to submit applications than was possible at the British Consulate General. The travel agents and student recruitment firms listed on the British Embassy website will retain their status as the only agents/couriers allowed to submit applications to the UKVAC. However, members of the public seeking a UK visa will once again be able to lodge applications in person.

The new procedures therefore allow personal service as well as improved facilities, such as on-line tracking of an application's progress and a telephone enquiry point during office hours.

The UK Visa Application Centre will be operated by VFS Global, but all visa applications will continue to be assessed by Visa Officers at the British Consulate General. The UKVAC handles the administrative part of the visa process only - responsibility for decisions on applications remains solely with the Visa Section of the British Consulate General.

We aim to process the majority of applications submitted through the Application Centre within two working days, depending upon the circumstances of a particular case. The new procedures should enable us to meet this target, even in the busiest periods. However, if an interview and/or further documentation is required, this target time may not apply.

The changes come about in direct response to customer feedback and to enhance service delivery. We are committed to making UK visa services more efficient and customer-friendly.
